Field Day 2017

Field Day 2017.

This picture. 🤣😂

When it comes to field day I’m a little bit competitive. My first grade class rocked it though and were proud of themselves for doing their absolute best. There were times when they were tired and I assured them we were almost there! They pulled and pulled. I coached them and coached them. We did win either 🥇 or was it second? 🤔 (circa 2017) But I pushed them to pull their hardest and they did.

Even when you feel that you have come to the end of your rope—professionally, personally, spiritually, keep pulling and believing. There are folks rooting for you along the sidelines. Keep pulling. Tap into your community—your circles. Your win is coming 🏆!

The Best Part of Me: Teacher’s Edition

When I first was blessed with the title of an Instructional Coach, getting to know the teachers and building relationships with them was a priority for me. It took time as all relationships do.

During the first part of one of our professional developments that I facilitated—I read to them. I read them portions of the book, The Best Part of Me, by Wendy Ewald. I decided to invite them to write about the best parts of themselves as teachers and they did. Afterwards, they allowed me to take pictures of their best parts. Some of them chose their hands, their heart, their minds—what this activity did was bring them back to their passion and their purpose as educators. We all need that from time to time. This helped me to connect with the teachers, get to know them more, and continue to build relationships with them.

I was blessed by this activity and I hope they were too!

The Crossover Author Surprised Our Students!

Kwame Alexander popped up at our school! 🙌🏽 Kwame Alexander

In 2018, Mr. Kwame Alexander said he wanted to pop up at schools to meet up with students! I commented on his post and from there was a thread of messages with him and his folks to come! 🔥

I was first introduced to his work as I looked for books that would interest my son, Bryson. My son loves basketball 🏀 and I thought hmmmm…basketball + verse…a win! And B loved it! He read The Crossover and The Rebound as well. He was so engaged and talking about the books with me. Of course, I read them too! 🙌🏽 📚💁🏽‍♀️

Bringing Mr. Kwame Alexander to our school was a big hit! He pulled up in a huge bus and our kids were so excited. A star came to our school ⭐️! We couldn’t keep his books on the shelves! That’s what it’s about! The fact that he gave his time meant so much to our students!

Happy Poetry Month!
