My student visited her home in Brazil 🇧🇷 and learned more about her culture there. She hadn’t been since she was a baby and now she could take it all in. When my students visit other places, my homework is always journal about it and take pictures. Then I invite them to share with the class! We loved learning about her trip, her culture, and her family.

Before she left on her trip we read, “The Dreaming Tree” a Brazilian folktale about a boy named Uaica who discovers a magical tree in the forest. The reading was in our curriculum and the connection my student had was powerful. She even took a picture of a 140 year old tree when she visited her country. 🌳

Learning about the culture and traditions of others is so impactful for students. They were excited to learn about Brazil and some said they may even visit one day.

Hello fellow teachers and friends! I began teaching in 2001. It is amazing to think that! I can't believe that I have taught so many grade levels and facilitated learning for teachers for so many years! My teaching began in South Carolina, then Virginia and the now in Georgia. My 21 years in teaching and education have taught me a lot about relationship building, authentic teaching and learning, life long learning and the importance of caring for self.
