When I first was blessed with the title of an Instructional Coach, getting to know the teachers and building relationships with them was a priority for me. It took time as all relationships do.
During the first part of one of our professional developments that I facilitated—I read to them. I read them portions of the book, The Best Part of Me, by Wendy Ewald. I decided to invite them to write about the best parts of themselves as teachers and they did. Afterwards, they allowed me to take pictures of their best parts. Some of them chose their hands, their heart, their minds—what this activity did was bring them back to their passion and their purpose as educators. We all need that from time to time. This helped me to connect with the teachers, get to know them more, and continue to build relationships with them.
I was blessed by this activity and I hope they were too! Circa 2017
Hello fellow teachers and friends! I began teaching in 2001. It is amazing to think that! I can't believe that I have taught so many grade levels and facilitated learning for teachers for so many years! My teaching began in South Carolina, then Virginia and the now in Georgia. My 21 years in teaching and education have taught me a lot about relationship building, authentic teaching and learning, life long learning and the importance of caring for self. I truly feel that those years upped my level of teaching in ways that I never could have imagined! My love is literacy and infusing diverse books in all we do. I am back in the classroom and I am also an Instructional Coach! I was an Instructional Coach in schools for 5 years and 2 years+ now as a consultant. I’ve written two books too! (If you would love to support there is a link in my blog) This blog is my journey. Hopefully you will stick with me!
