Kwame Alexander popped up at our school! 🙌🏽 Kwame Alexander
In 2018, Mr. Kwame Alexander said he wanted to pop up at schools to meet up with students! I commented on his post and from there was a thread of messages with him and his folks to come! 🔥
I was first introduced to his work as I looked for books that would interest my son, Bryson. My son loves basketball 🏀 and I thought hmmmm…basketball + verse…a win! And B loved it! He read The Crossover and The Rebound as well. He was so engaged and talking about the books with me. Of course, I read them too! 🙌🏽 📚💁🏽♀️
Bringing Mr. Kwame Alexander to our school was a big hit! He pulled up in a huge bus and our kids were so excited. A star came to our school ⭐️! We couldn’t keep his books on the shelves! That’s what it’s about! The fact that he gave his time meant so much to our students!
Hello fellow teachers and friends! I began teaching in 2001. It is amazing to think that! I can't believe that I have taught so many grade levels and facilitated learning for teachers for so many years! My teaching began in South Carolina, then Virginia and the now in Georgia. My 21 years in teaching and education have taught me a lot about relationship building, authentic teaching and learning, life long learning and the importance of caring for self. I truly feel that those years upped my level of teaching in ways that I never could have imagined! My love is literacy and infusing diverse books in all we do. I am back in the classroom and I am also an Instructional Coach! I was an Instructional Coach in schools for 5 years and 2 years+ now as a consultant. I’ve written two books too! (If you would love to support there is a link in my blog) This blog is my journey. Hopefully you will stick with me!
